Factor is not enough!

Although factors are the mainstay of treatment for patients with hemophilia there are other measures that patients must carryout in order to decrease pain and severity of a bleed.
1. Rest: keep the bleeding limb immobile. In joint bleeds usually 2-3 days of rest is sufficient before physiotherapeutic procedures can be started.
2. Ice: use ice and cold bags to cool the affected part in the acute phase of a bleed. This will constrict the capillaries and reduce the bleeding.
3. Compress: put pressure on the bleeding limb by elastic bands as soon as a bleed is diagnosed.
4. Elevate: elevate the affected limb so that it rests higher than the heart. This will reduce its blood flow and thus reduce the bleed.
Also All Iranian patients must keep a factor diary, recording the amount, date, time and reason for their factor injection to later be integrated into their medical file
