171 patients mentioned in the second case of Hemophiliacs may receive compensation this year
After the court verdict back in 2006 which led to the payment of compensation to 974 hemophilia patients infected through contaminated blood products, now the second court has also reached a final verdict and awaits implementation. Although the court verdict was finalized before the end of last year, unfortunately the authorities at the Iranian Health Ministry and the Iranian Blood Transfusion Organization failed to implement the verdict before the turn of the year which, according to the court order, means that the amount of compensation should once again be adjusted for inflation.
On the other hand it appears that the budget required for implementation of the court order has not been foreseen in the annual budget of these organizations for this year. Thus the infected hemophiliacs feared that the once again had to endure the bureaucratic burden of the case for yet another year. However, recently in reply to a letter by the Iranian Hemophilia Society to vice-president of strategic affairs, it was announced that the patients’ compensation can be paid through other articles included in the national budget.
Thus once again hopes of implementing the court verdict in the current year has been revived.
