This year too, the first day of the national hemophilia week was named after the victims of the contaminated blood scandal and a commemoration ceremony was held in Tehran. The IHS CEO, Ahmad Ghavidel, announced that “by holding this commemoration we seek to once again bring to light the government’s civil duty in upholding public health and safety”. He also expressed disappointment about the fact that one year after the insurance of blood products in Iran, still the general public is unaware of its rights in this regards. He also mentioned printing the insurance company’s label on all blood products as a good way of boosting public confidence and awareness in using such products.
“we believe that the insurance of blood products paves the way for an end to the lengthy legal battles between the producers and the consumers of such products in Iran” Ghavidel insisted. Yet he also clarified that this can only be achieved if this is done through maintaining comprehensive records of all patients using blood products as an inseparable part of an insurance policy.
