Through a court verdict issued earlier this year, the ministry of health was convicted to pay over $5.5 M of compensation to 171 hemophilia patients infected with HIV and HCV in the 80s and 90s. With the goodwill of the minister himself, an order was issued to facilitate the process of paying the compensation. Therefore these patients can expect to receive the amount by the end of this month.
Up to now four of the complainants in this case have passed away. This verdict also includes the treatment of patients. Last year over 400 patients received centralized treatment for HCV infection under the supervision of the ministry of health. But unfortunately this year the process has slowed down and despite the long waiting list of 260 patients, only two to three are accepted for treatment weekly.
