strategic planning within the IHS

In a detailed monologue on the Persian section of Zendegimagazine.com the IHS vice-president Sabri Naqashian takes a strategic look at the problems facing the Iranian Hemophilia Society (IHS). “Hemophilia has turned into one of the major health concerns of governments and reflects their commitment to sustained development and solving their population’s problems. In Iran where helping a fellow countryman also bears a religious fulfillment, the support for hemophiliacs has been institutionalized. Yet a fundamental and categorized approach to solving the patients’ problems is lacking. This is where Non-governmental Organizations play their role. The new constitution of the Iranian Hemophilia Society (IHS), drafted in 2005 and approved by the IHS general assembly is based on this fundamental approach.”
He goes on to mention: “Today we face the second round of elections for members of the board of directors within the framework of this new constitution, and now is the perfect time to look at the role of this institution in planning, decision-making and organizing and leading the organization with respect to the current problems facing our members today. What is the role of each board member in the next board? What awaits them in their new positions? Can we reach a common and practical definition of what is expected from the board of directors?”
The IHS vice-president states “installing systematic, dynamic and strategic thinking and redefining this role alongside IHS goals and programs is the only way out of the current predicament” and goes on to present his definition of management “Management is the process of effectively utilizing human and financial resources in decision-making, planning, organizing, putting use all the resources and facilities< leading, guiding and monitoring the organization as it works to fulfill its goals within an ethically acceptable framework”.
He then applies this definition to the current IHS framework and criticizes some of aspects of the current management process. Naqashian concludes: “as a current member of the board of directors I ask all who seek to nominate themselves for seats on the board of directors to bear in mind the responsibly of such a role and to consider all aspects it and prepare themselves for facing and overcoming the threats by taking advantage of the opportunities.”
