The Iranian ministry of health has named the Coagulation Labs at the Iranian Comprehensive Hemophilia Care Center as a National reference Laboratory in a new project set out to reassess Iranian hemophilia patients.
As part of a novel national project, the Iranian Ministry of Health has decided to reevaluate its current data on hemophilia patients throughout the country. The project is closely connected to the ministry’s endeavor to create and sustain a governmental national hemophilia database. Iranian Hemophilia Society currently runs the most comprehensive database on hemophilia patients in Iran.
The new database will include all categories of bleeding disorders and will also put special emphasis on the patients’ inhibitor status.
In the initial step reference labs have been designated in all provinces taking part, and the technicians involved will be summoned to receive training on performing accurate coagulation analysis. Three head laboratories will lead and control the activities of some 12 provincial laboratory centers. These include the coagulation labs of the Iranian Hemophilia Comprehensive Care Center, Iranian Blood Transfusion Organization, and Shiraz University of Medical Sciences.
The project promises to be a huge step forward in perfecting the data on people with bleeding disorders and to set the stage for better hemophilia care in Iran.
